MI vs KXIP Preview
Mumbai Indians look like a team to beat this season. This is evident from the way the team is grinding out results. They defeated RCB in their own stable, before beating last year’s finalists CSK and SRH comfortably.
-- Advertisement --Their last victory was especially noteworthy considering it was away at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium, SRH’s fortress. Having been asked to bat first, MI demonstrated immense character to emerge from 62/5 to finish strongly at 136/7.
However, it was their bowling that was the talk of the town. Having lost an experienced Lasith Malinga before the match, it was always going to be a difficult second innings for MI. But one name – Alzarri Joseph – shone the brightest and scalped as many as 6 wickets to help his side win by 40 runs. The West Indian’s epic feat of 6/12 also broke the 11-year-old record for the best debut bowling figures set by Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir (6/14).
With him, MI may just have found the last piece of their squad puzzle, especially in the bowling department. Earlier in the season, the team had experimented with Mitchell McClenaghan, Ben Cutting, Rasikh Salam, and Mayank Markande, all of whom weren’t effective. Lasith Malinga too was in the frame for some time.

However, Alzarri, along with Jasprit Bumrah, Jason Behrendorff, and Hardik Pandya form a menacing pace attack while Rahul Chahar and Krunal Pandya form an impressive spin combination. Chahar has been particularly imposing in the last few innings and looks set for a long inning with MI. The Indians, thus, look set to have a deep run in the competition.
KXIP
Kings XI Punjab, on the other hand, has been successful in bringing out the best from the limited resources that they have. The bowlers, speaking generally, have been good, although there is still scope for improvement there.
However, it is the batting that surprises the most. KL Rahul has found his lost form back and already features third in the race for the Orange Cap. Mayank Agarwal has been another consistent performer.
The situation could have been far different in the match against SRH after Gayle departed in the third over. However, the two batsmen stayed at the crease and saw to it that the score went from 18/1 to 132/1.

While Kings will hope that Rahul continues to perform in the same manner, Chris Gayle will also have to perform well against MI, if they are to salvage anything in Mumbai.
Predicted Winner
They got it right in the first meeting against MI in Punjab, using the home conditions correctly to their advantage. However, things can be different at Wankhede, especially with Mumbai Indians back in form. They look like a team to beat and more balanced of the two on paper. We thus put our money on MI over KXIP.
Dream11 Hint
Wankhede is an out and out batting pitch, with the team batting first enjoying the most success. Choosing 4-5 batsman would, thus, make sense. Hardik Pandya and Sam Curran have been in form and they should make it to the all-rounder spots of your team. Among bowlers, Alzarri Joseph and Rahul Chahar would be smart choices considering their modest credits.
