Kings XI Punjab boosted their top 4 chances of the Indian Premier League by recording a comfortable 12-run victory over Rajasthan Royals. KL Rahul had scored a well-timed half ton to guide the hosts to challenging total of 182-runs. Skipper Ravichandran Ashwin too chipped in a vital contribution of 17* runs from just 4 balls.
However, it was their bowling in the death overs that made the difference for the Kings. The promotion of Rahul Tripathi (50) in the opening spot alongside Jos Buttler (23) seemed to work as the Royals sailed in the Powerplay. However, once the duo, along with Sanju Samson was dismissed by Ashwin, things fell apart for the visitors. The surprise of the night was Stuart Binny’s 33* from 11 balls. Even that was not enough as the Royals fell short of 12 runs. The defeat would be a huge blow to their chances of making it to the Playoff spot.
Tall score to chase, but at one stage Rajasthan looked in control before squandering the opportunity with some inept batting. My MOM: @ashwinravi99 for his thrustful batting, crafty bowling and aggressive captaincy— Cricketwallah (@cricketwallah) April 16, 2019
Here is how Twitter reacted to Rajasthan Royals’ defeat at Punjab:
rahane is probably the worst t20 player ever..he doesnt play so badly that u can drop him..neither does he win matches for u..almost every time he puts the team into a hole #KXIPvRR— Avi (@just_avi_) April 16, 2019
26 off 21 after coming in when 86 runs was required off 50 balls. Unacceptable…!!!— Deepu Narayanan (@deeputalks) April 16, 2019
Today's loss is entirely upon Rahane the captain and Rahane the batsman.
Yet another match losing innings by him.#KXIPvRR #RR pic.twitter.com/7j2Gux7F4L
Stuart Binny gets heavily trolled but I have always thought differently.— Jeet Vachharajani (@Jeetv27) April 16, 2019
He's actually a very unlucky cricketer.
No captain has used him properly & that's where he has taken a beating.
He's a genuine new ball bowler and his 6/4 against Bangladesh proves that too.#KXIPvRR
