tough but not impossible for RCB to fail to defend this #KKRvRCB— Gaurav Kalra (@gauravkalra75) April 19, 2019
And for the better part of the last three overs of the second innings, it felt as though Mr. Kalra was spot on with his tweet.
The RCB bowlers conceded as many as 82 runs in the last 5 overs to give hope to the hosts. Nitish Rana and Andre Russell scored breath taking knocks of 85* and 65 to almost take their team past the finish line. However, in an anticlimax, Moeen Ali held his nerves and bowled a crucial dot ball when KKR needed 3 sixes from 3 with Russell on strike.
However, although KKR lost the match, they won the fans’ hearts with their never-say-die attitude. While many praised Russell’s batting skills, some were particularly not impressed by Robin Uthappa’s poor innings of 9 runs from 20 balls. Here is how they reacted:
My heart is still beating fast. What a nail-biting finish. Even though RCB won, Kudos to the way Andre Russell and Nitish Rana played, right till the last ball. One of the best T20 match I've ever watched. #KKRvRCB— Sparsh Telang (@_cricketsparsh) April 19, 2019
Almost anything is possible. Andre Russell can do anything with bat in hand. Cleanest hitting one can wish to see. Fantastic 100 from Virat as well and a top class match. #KKRvRCB— Virender Sehwag (@virendersehwag) April 19, 2019
Kept insisting on-air that too many dot balls could haunt KKR in the later stages of the game. Uthappa's 9(20) has proven to be the big difference now. 11 balls wasted – Had he rotated strike, would have made it a lot easier for KKR. 1's and 2's do matter a lot in T20's #KKRvRCB— Hemang Badani (@hemangkbadani) April 19, 2019
Hitting of the highest class from Andre Russell. Astonishing #KKRvRCB— Mohammad Kaif (@MohammadKaif) April 19, 2019
Robin Uthappa played like an Duck walking in a desert #KKRvRCB— Nishant Chaturvedi (@nishantchat) April 19, 2019
205 runs in the last 6 overs from both sides – the most in any T20 match!— Bharath Seervi (@SeerviBharath) April 19, 2019
20 sixes were hit, just 3 wickets lost in them. #KKRvRCB
Some others were not impressed by skipper Virat Kohli who appeared to abuse a KKR player during the match:
Dear Kohli,— DARVEY (@Sudharsan_ak) April 19, 2019
The entire nation loves you for your consistency and dedication for Team India.
We know you have won after a long time. But have the courtesy to congratulate opposition player like Rana, who played equally well. This attitude doesn't bode well champ.#KKRvRCB
A guy scored 9 sixes 2 fours, almost made it win for team gets abused by opponent 's captain when getting out..— . (@Aayan4910) April 19, 2019
Spirit of Game just died here & King Kohli has lost all respects from my side .. Disgraceful!! #KKRvRCB
You may be the greatest cricketer of all time bt abusing a player unnecessarily shows your class. People will more remember you as a good human rather than your on field achievements which will not remain intact with you forever.#Kohli#KKRvRCB— Shab (@ItsShab07) April 19, 2019
I love you Virat but don't show that attitude when the opposition just scored 102 runs in last 6 overs. Just appreciate those players for this impossible fight and enjoy the win. #KKRvRCB— R! (@WeirdlyProbable) April 19, 2019
