The fifth game of IPL 2019 witnessed a young Delhi Capitals side welcome the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings at the mighty Feroz Shah Kotla stadium on Tuesday. A thriller was in offing, and the fans weren’t disappointed as there was loads of action in Delhi.
Banking on their star-studded batting line-up that won them the IPL opener against Mumbai Indians, Delhi chose to bat first after winning the toss. They started on a balanced note. But as the innings wore off, their famed batting started to fall apart. From 120/2 they were reduced to 126/6. The tailenders somehow managed to take their team past the 140 run-mark.
But the target of 148 was never going to be enough at a flat and batting-friendly ground of Kotla and against a fierce side like CSK. Unsurprisingly, the chase started brightly, with Shane Watson in charge of the hitting duties. In spite of losing some wickets later in the innings, the defending champions still managed to their second IPL match on the trot with only two balls left to play.
CSK look the real deal and an early title favourites this season as well. The ease and professionalism with which they win the matches are almost awe-inspiring. They once again demonstrated their bowling might by restricting the batting-heavy Delhi side to a modest 147/6/. They then chased the target with their own pace, cooly and clinically. Defeating them this season will not be easy.
DC need an experienced captain to lead their young team. Shreyas Iyer is an able skipper without a doubt. But in some sticky situations like that from yesterday, when the team was defending a low target, the team needs a captain with loads of experience. Take the example of Kings XI for instance. The team was heading for a certain defeat against Rajasthan Royals with two well-set batsmen on the crease. However, the leadership qualities of veteran skipper Ravichandran Ashwin helped squeeze out a close 14 run victory with bowlers picking some wickets.
Moment of the Match – Watson vs Sharma
Early into the second innings, tempers went high when a war of words broke out between Ishant Sharma and Shane Watson. It is believed that Watson sledged Sharma to provoke the towering bowler.

Player of the Match
Dwayne Bravo is undoubtedly the most successful and decisive all-rounder of the Indian Premier League history. The T20 World Cup winner has been in the same blazing form as he was in his first season for CSK.
As always, he changed the course of the match by scalping the all-important wicket of an in-form Rishabh Pant. Bravo then dismissed two more prominent batsman- Colin Ingram and Shikhar Dhawan- to tighten the noose around the host’s necks.
The West Indian then came out with the willow to hit the winning runs in the last over, a fitting display of his all-around play.
Only fitting that Bravo should hit the winning shot, albeit after some anxious moments. He was the one to trigger DC collapse too. Superb win for CSK. ‘Dad’s Army’ marches on!
