South Africa’s Dale Steyn will be coming in to the rescue of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for rest of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 season as a replacement for Australian pacer Nathan Coulter-Nile. Recently RCB spoke to the press saying that Nathan Coulter-Nile is a talented player and his absence is felt both in the team and on the ground. Nathan, suffering from an injury has been prescribed ample rest.
Moreover, Team RCB has confirmed replacing him in the squad with explosive fast bowler Dale Steyn. Also, the permission to field Steyn in place of Coulter-Nile is granted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).-- Advertisement --
Steyn will be playing IPL after three years. The last he played was in 2016 for Gujarat Lions wherein he suffered an injury and went home after the first match for the Suresh Raina-led franchise. He did not join the 2017 edition too as he was advised to focus on the recovery from a career-threatening shoulder injury.
He has played tremendous 28 matches for RCB between 2008 and 2010, picking up 27 wickets. Overall, he has earned 92 wickets in 90 matches in the IPL. The South African fast bowler is roped in by Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for the injured Nathan Coulter-Nile for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019.
Steyn has featured in nine editions of the VIVO IPL and played for RCB from 2008-2010. With IPL 2019 already started, Nile missed a first few matches because of international commitments with the Australian team, which took on Pakistan in an ODI series in the UAE.
RCB will be playing their next match against Kings XI Punjab on 13th April at Mohali for their seventh game in the VIVO IPL 2019. According to statistics, RCB had one of the worst performing bowling department in the league. Therefore, the arrival of Steyn may prove to be a boon for the team.
