The Match 18 of the VIVO Indian Premier League 2019 will see the defending champions Chennai Super Kings welcome Kings XI Punjab at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. CSK’s stunning winning start to the IPL 2019 campaign as brought to an end on Wednesday by old foes Mumbai Indians, who by 37 runs. KXIP, on the other hand, defeated Delhi Capitals by 14 runs to move to the second position in the league table. Both the teams will, thus, be viewing the Saturday’s blockbuster match as a great opportunity to bolster the play-off positions.
Here is the detailed analysis of the Chennai Super Kings vs KXIP IPL match:
|Key Players in form||CSK- Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir|
KXIP- Sam Curran, David Miller
|Weather Conditions||30 ℃, 77% Humidity, Winds up to 18 km/hr. No signs of rain.|
|Toss Advantage||Going by the pitch record, the team batting first has won on 13 matches as compared to 6 through chasing.|
|Pitch Conditions||The Chepauk pitch is counted amongst one of the most high-scoring pitches in the country. However, the first match was an exact contrast of the above with a combined of 141 being scored between RCB and CSK. That figure for the solitary match played at the stadium last year between CSK and KKR was a massive 407 runs.|
The pitch may get a little slow later in the evening, giving the spinners an extra edge. It goes without saying that the team that wins the toss will be looking forward to bat first and put a competitive total in favourable conditions.
|Venue Stats||Average Total (2018): 203|
Highest Total (2018): 205/5 (CSK)
Last Match: RCB 70/10 | CSK 71/3
|Ground Size:||Side Boundaries: 64 m, Straight Boundary: 78 m|
|CSK- Pacer Lungi Ngidi has been ruled out for the rest of the IPL season with an injury.|
KXIP– Chris Gayle was left out of the last match for unknown reason. But in his absence, the young Sam Curran gave a stunning all-round display. It, thus, seems that Curran will be handed another playing chance in place of the mighty West Indian.

CSK vs KXIP Dream11 Prediction
Chennai Super Kings had started their title defence in style, winning three consecutive matches. However, it was more about the way they had won them. If their pacers failed to perform in the first game, the spinners (Imran Tahir and Harbhajan Singh) overtook the charge of the game. If the openers failed to perform, as in the match against Rajasthan Royals, it was the lower middle order that stood up to the occasion. CSK just felt a perfect. Too good to be true and an 2019’s most unbeatable team.
However, charge to a consecutive IPL title was brought to a stuttering end by rivals Mumbai Indians (who won by 37 runs) in Wednesday’s showdown. The defeat showed that CSK were not invincibles indeed. And beatable.

Kings XI Punjab will have to imitate the same things that MI did to engineer a victory over CSK. One of them was to put a big score at Chepauk, if they bat first. Anything above 170 would do here. As the evening wears off, the pitch becomes unpredictable and challenging to bat on.
Secondly, they will have to utilize their pacers really well. The pitch promises a hint of swing, and the likes of Mohammed Shami and Sam Curran will have to capitalize on this itself. Considering both the Wankhede and Chepauk stadiums have batting friendly surfaces with weather conditions almost identical – humid and a hint of wind since both are located in coastal areas – these strategies are practical and applicable.
Putting in the hard yards for the Chepauk challenge! 💪

Head to Head Record
CSK lead the head-to-head stats against KXIP by 12-8. Last season, while they lost at Punjab’s home stadium, they made up for it with a 5-wicket win in Pune. In the fixtures between the two sides, it is Suresh Raina who has scored the maximum runs – 641. MS Dhoni is the next batsman with 478. Among wicket-takers, Ravichandran Ashwin leads the line with 15 scalps followed by Ravindra Jadeja’s 14.
Although KXIP have the momentum, CSK clearly have more squad depth, experience and the home advantage to win the contest.
CSK vs KXIP Dream11 Hint
Try to include more number of batsman from the team who bat first, considering the pitch’s history. Four batsman would be sufficient. Amongst all-rounders, Dwayne Bravo is a must have while Ravichandran Ashwin would be highly recommended. Having started his career and played extensively at Chepauk, the veteran spinner’s selection would be a smart choice. Moreover, he knows the CSK batsman pretty well. Sam Curran would also be a good choice. Among bowlers, choosing pacers would be recommended while Imran Tahir is a must have.
