IPL 2018 Team ProfileWill Rajasthan make a Royal Comeback?

Along with CSK, Rajasthan Royals are also returning to the Indian Premier League after serving a two-year ban on accounts of match-fixing and betting. Their mental toughness will also be put to the test as they would look to put behind the fiasco behind them and prove to the cricketing world that they are still a quality side. This test is only bound to get tougher as their captain, Steve Smith, will be missing this edition to the Sandpaper Gate.

Indeed, a massive loss to the team. He has proved to be the difference the two sides on numerous occasions and has taken his side over the line in multiple instances. A great leader and an even better captain, will RR under Ajinkya Rahane do as well as they could have under Smith? Will they win their second title after winning the maiden season? Only time will tell.

Skipper Rahane will have double duties to cover with his batting as well as leadership skills.

IPL 2018 Team Profile – Full Squad

Benjamin Stokes, Jaydev Unadkat, Sanju Samson, Jofra Archer, Krishnappa Gowtham, Jos Buttler, Ajinkya Rahane, Darcy Short, Rahul Tripathi, Dhawal Kulkarni, Zahir Khan Pakteen, Ben Laughlin, Stuart Binny, Dushmantha Chameera, Anureet Singh, Aryaman Vikram Birla, Midhun S, Shreyas Gopal, Prashant Chopra, Jatin Saxena, Ankit Sharma, Mahipal Lomror, Heinrich Klaasen.

South African wicket-keeper batsman Heinrich Klaasen will be replacing Steve Smith and with his inclusion, RR will be able to bat even deeper now. Providing support will be last year’s player of the season, Ben Stokes. Explosive batsman Jos Buttler along with Ajinkya Rahane, Short, Rahul Tripathi, and Sanju Samson will prove to be the key players in the batting line-up.

RR have a strong bowling line-up. Jaydev Unadkat, Dhawal Kulkarni, Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Ben Laughlin, Ankit Sharma and Anureet Singh will lead the charge. It is a good chance for young Indian bowlers to leave a long-lasting impression on the national selectors who will be keeping a close eye on them.

IPL 2018 Team Profile – A New Punjab is looking good

2014 was the year when the ‘puttars’ of Punjab missed the trophy by a whisker. A nerve-wracking final over at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium where Piyush Chawla’s last ball heroics took KKR over the line. That season, by far, was their best season. They have consistently finished in the lower half of the table and things just haven’t gone their way.

They can change that this year. With a new captain in the name of Ravichandran Ashwin, KXIP has undergone some major changes. They had a decent outing at the IPL Auction, to say the least. So, what do they look like now?

A top-four finish beckons for KXIP.

IPL 2018 Team Profile – FULL SQUAD

Axar Patel, KL Rahul, Ravichandran Ashwin, Andrew Tye, Aaron Finch, Marcus Stoinis, Karun Nair, Mujeeb Zadran, Ankit Singh Rajpoot, David Miller, Mohit Sharma, Barinder Singh Sran, Yuvraj Singh, Christopher Gayle, Ben Dwarshuis, Akshdeep Nath, Manoj Tiwary, Mayank Agarwal, Manzoor Dar, Pardeep Sahu, Mayank Dagar

The top order looks great this time. Plenty of options in Chris Gayle, Aaron Finch, KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal and Karun Nair. Middle order will comprise of Marcus Stoinis, Miller, Yuvraj Singh, and Manoj Tiwary. A good start will be the key for the team.

Bowling line-up looks a tad weak. Sran and Mohit Sharma have been absent from the Indian team and apart from Andrew Tye, there is no penetrative and dependant bowler. Axar Patel and Ashwin will play a key role in stopping the run flow and picking up wickets.

IPL 2018 Team Profile – Will the Royal Challengers finally get their hands on the trophy?

Be it the South African cricket team or the English football team, there are a few teams in the world that are extremely strong on paper and yet, their trophy cabinet is as good as empty. Add the Royal Challengers Bangalore to the list. The squad has always been star-studded, and the closest they have come to the trophy was in 2016 when they lost to SRH in the finals. They also made it to the finals in 2011. They lost to CSK by 6 runs.  Will the Royals, led by invincible Virat Kohli, spring a surprise this season?

One of the best teams on paper? Can RCB finally lift the trophy this year?

IPL 2018 Team Profile – Full Squad

Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Sarfaraz Khan, Chris Woakes, Yuzvendra Singh Chahal, Umesh Yadav, Brendon McCullum, Washington Sundar, Navdeep Saini, Quinton De Kock, Mohammed Siraj, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Colin De Grandhomme, M. Ashwin, Parthiv Patel, Moeen Ali, Mandeep Singh, Manan Vohra, Pawan Negi, Tim Southee, Kulwant Khejroliya, Aniket Choudhary, Pavan Deshpande, Aniruddha Ashok Joshi

When you have Kohli, McCullum, and De Villiers in the same playing XI, as a bowler, you have probably given up before the start of the match. A dream top order supported by Mandeep Singh, Moeen Ali and De Kock, RCB has always batted deep. Putting up huge totals in the first innings has been their forte and they have it more often than not.

In fact, the problem lies in the bowling line-up. While the batting order is vulnerable and usually over dependant on a few players, the bowling has been the real weakness.

However, this year, they have bagged some great bowlers. The spin compartment will be handled by India’s new wonder boy, Washington Sundar along with Chahal, Moeen Ali. The fast bowling unit comprises of promising names like Umesh Yadav, Tim Southee, Siraj, Coulter-Nile, and Chris Woakes. All eyes will also be on youngsters Khejroliya and Saini. They have also got Colin De Grandhomme as a promising all-rounder.

Is this their season? Will they replicate their batting and bowling prowess from paper to field? Only time will tell.

IPL 2018 Team Profile – A top 4 finish for the Double D’s?

It is safe to say that Delhi Daredevils has been the weakest and most unsuccessful team in the history of IPL. In the past ten editions, they have never been able to make it to the finals, and they have only finished in the top-four thrice. That includes four last-place finishes.

However, will they do any better this season under Gautam Gambhir?

Delhi Boy Gautam Gambhir is back with DD after a successful stint with KKR.

IPL 2018 Team Profile – Full Squad

Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Chris Morris, Glenn Maxwell, Amit Mishra, Shahbaz Nadeem, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, Mohammad Shami, Gautam Gambhir, Trent Boult, Colin Munro, Daniel Christian, Jason Roy, Naman Ojha, Prithvi Shaw, Gurkeerat Singh Mann, Avesh Khan, Abhishek Sharma, Jayant Yadav, Harshal Patel, Manjot Kalra, Sandeep Lamichhane, Sayan Ghosh

The batting order consists of a few mighty hitters like Colin Munro, Glenn Maxwell, Jason Roy, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Gambhir, with Chris Morris and Naman Ojha down the order, they are likely to finish well.

Their bowling line-up was anyways sub-par and with Rabada out of the tournament now, the line-up looks even weaker now. Trent Boult seems to be the lone warrior as expensive Harshal Patel and injury-prone Shami might not be able to provide great support. It will be interesting to see how Christian and Shankar perform this season.
