IOA president and legendary Indian athlete PT Usha arrived at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Wednesday to meet with protesting wrestlers. Upon arrival, Usha was seen conversing with several prominent wrestlers, including Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat, and Bajrang Punia. The wrestlers are currently protesting against the chief of the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, whom they accuse of sexually harassing multiple women players.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia told ANI after meeting the IOA president,

“She (PT Usha) said that she is standing with us and will get us justice and that she is an athlete first and then anything else,”

“She said that she will look into our issue and resolve it as early as possible.

“We will remain here till Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh goes to jail.”

Following the Executive Committee meeting of the IOA, where Wushu Association of India president Bhupendra Singh Bajwa, former shooter Suma Shirur, and a retired High Court judge were nominated to run the wrestling body and conduct elections, Usha stated on April 27th,

“The IOA has an athletes’ commission. Instead of going on the streets, they could have come to us. The wrestlers themselves suggested an ad-hoc committee and we have formed one.”

Sakshi Malik told media persons,

Being a woman athlete, she (PT Usha) is not listening to other women athletes. We have followed her since childhood and got inspired by her. Where is indiscipline here, we are sitting here peacefully,”

Now, Usha’s presence at the protest site is seen as a positive step towards resolving the issues raised by the wrestlers.
