After India’s exceptional medal performance at the Hangzhou Asian Games, where the nation clinched a record-breaking 107 medals, including an impressive 28 golds, Indian Olympics Association (IOA) president, PT Usha supported the Indian government’s plan to put in a proposal to host the 2036 Olympics. The outstanding achievement in Hangzhou marked a substantial increase of 37 medals compared to India’s previous best at the 2018 edition.

PT Usha told PTI:

“After this record-breaking performance in the Hangzhou Asian Games, if our country’s athletes, coaches and national federations work hard, I feel we can win double-digit medals in the Paris Olympics, The government is doing everything possible for the betterment of Indian sports and for the athletes. Our prime minister takes a lot of interest in the country’s sports.”

The Indian government may officially convey its desire to host the 2036 Olympics at the upcoming International Olympic Committee (IOC) session scheduled for October 15 to 17 in Mumbai. Following recent changes, the IOC has departed from its conventional bidding procedure. Instead, interested nations submit their expressions of interest, and the IOC’s Future Host Commission will then designate and present its favored contender to the Executive Board.

Assuming the role of IOA chief in December of the previous year, Usha mentioned that she had anticipated India’s impressive performance of securing over 100 medals in Hangzhou. Usha stated,

“I am an athlete myself and I knew from the beginning that India will win more than 100 medals in Hangzhou. So I was not surprised when we crossed 100 medals,”
