In Barcelona, Spain, on Friday, he emerged victorious in both the classic and blitz categories at the El Llobregat Open Chess Tournament. Prior to this achievement, Narayanan had secured a bronze medal at the esteemed Qatar Masters Open in October. At El Llobregat, he concluded the classic event with an impressive 7.5 points from nine rounds, showcasing an unbeaten performance with six wins. Narayanan clinched the title by drawing against top-seeded Vladimir Fedoseev in the final round.

During the blitz competition, the Indian Grandmaster showcased remarkable prowess, concluding with a total of 8 points. The only instances he did not secure a win were in the matches against Fedoseev in round four and Vugar Asadli in the final round. El Llobregat holds a special place in Narayanan’s list of favored events, as he emerged victorious in the inaugural tournament held in the Spanish town back in 2019. Following his recent success, Narayanan is on the verge of reaching the 2700-Elo mark, with his current live rating standing at 2694.
