Indian wrestlers Rupin, Neeraj, & Sunil Kumar bagged medals at the Asian Wrestling Championship

The young wrestler Rupin won the silver medal in the Greco-Roman 55 kg weight class. It was his first international medal at the senior level and India got off to a great start at the Asian Wrestling Championships on Sunday. 19-year-old Rupin finished second, while Neeraj (63kg) and Sunil Kumar (87kg) won bronze.

After entering the summit clash from the preliminary stage, with the help of three consecutive wins, Rupin lost to dynamic Soulat Dad Marz from Iran with the result of 1-3 in the final.

Rupin, 2019 World Cadet Championship bronze medalist began his campaign with a 16-7 victory over Sardarbek from Kyrgyzstan in the qualification round.

He then outsmarted Amangali Rahimbayev from Kazakhstan and China’s Zhang Haifeng in the quarterfinals and semifinals respectively. In 63 kg, Neeraj beat South Korea’s Jinseub Song 5-2 to claim the bronze medal. On the other hand, Sunil Kumar defeated Masato Sumi from Japan by 4-1 in the bronze medal match in 87kg.

Neeraj defeated Dastan Kadyrov from Kyrgyzstan by 7-6 in the qualification round. In the quarterfinal, he lost to Iran’s Imam Hossein Khoon Mohammadi 0-9 but got a second chance via repechage after Mohammadi made it to the final
