The Indian women’s cricket team claimed a 5-0 T20 series clean sweep over the West Indies. India won the game by 61 runs after having scored 134/3 in the first innings, then restricted their opponents to 73/7.
The women’s team have secured 5 convincing victories over West Indies in the series.
How India secured the clean-sweep
India was batting first at the Guyana Cricket Stadium. Teenage sensation Shafali Verma and skipper Smriti Mandhana opened the batting. However, the duo was dismissed after India had just 17 runs on the board.
Coming in at a crucial time, Jemimah Rodrigues and Veda Krishnamurthy were the driving force behind India’s total of 137 runs in 20 overs. Rodrigues scored 50 runs in 56 deliveries which consisted of 3 fours. Veda remained not-out after scoring 57 runs in 48 deliveries consisting of 4, fours.
With a score of 135 to defend, the bowlers did a fantastic job to restrict the Windies batters to 73 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. The best bowling figures came from Anuja Patil, who bowled 3 overs giving away just 3 runs and picked up 2 wickets. Radha Yadav bowled 4 overs in which she picked up 1 wicket and a run-out while conceding 10 runs.
Poonam Yadav, Pooja Vastrakar and Harleen Deol gave away 15, 14 and 13 runs respectively in their 3 overs and picked up a wicket each.
There have been some thrilling games played by both the countries in the series. Most notably, the 3rd and 4th T20. In the 3rd game, India restricted the West Indies women’s to a low total of 59/9. The following game was a 9 over game in which India defended their low total of 51 runs and won the game by 5 wickets.
The Women’s team had a fantastic tour of West Indies as they won the ODI series 2-1 and then claimed a 5-0 series sweep. The player of the T20 series was Shafali Verma who scored 158 runs in 5 innings.
