Choosing to bat initially, India achieved a score of 116/7 in 20 overs at the ZJUT Cricket Field. Sri Lanka made a valiant effort but ultimately came up short by 19 runs. India, the presumed favorites due to their previous dominance in Asia Cup editions and top ranking among all teams, faced challenging conditions in the tournament on Monday. The pitch, which frequently produced dust puffs, demanded a cautious approach. In response, Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues maintained stability during their second-wicket partnership, ultimately enabling India to reach a competitive score.

Opting to bat first, Smriti contributed 46 runs, and Jemimah added 42, bolstering India’s innings before they encountered a late flurry of wickets, culminating in a total of 116/7. In the bowling department, left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad clinched two wickets, while Deepti Sharma, Pooja Vastrakar, and Devika Vaidya secured one wicket each, playing pivotal roles in India’s victory in their inaugural appearance in the event. Sri Lanka concluded their innings at 97/8.
