Indian Tennis Sensation Karman Kaur Thandi Claims ITF W60 Title in the US

Indian tennis player, Karman Kaur Thandi won the ITF W60 Evansville singles title in Evansville, USA. Karman Kaur becomes the second Indian woman following Sania Mirza to win a pro title in the US. In a thrilling final of the $60,000 event, the third-seeded Karman overcame Ukraine’s Yuliia Starodubtseva with a scoreline of 7-5, 4-6, 6-1 to claim the title.

Karman Kaur Thandi‘s championship win propels her into the top 210 in the WTA standings, securing her a position in the US Open qualifications. The championship encounter is a rematch of the W60 Sumter final from a month ago, which Thandi lost 7-6(5), 5-7, 4-6.

Prior to defeating American wild card Allie Kiick in the quarterfinals, Karman had previously defeated Mexican Maria Fernanda Navarro and American Maribella Zamarippa in Rounds 1 and 2, respectively. She then won 6-4, 7-5 in the semifinals against American Mccartney Kessler to go to the final round.

Karman is presently rated 261st in the WTA singles standings. This victory comes after her two previous runner-up results: in the W60 Saskatoon Challenger pairs tournament in Canada and the W60 Sumter Palmetto Pro Open singles tournament in the United States.
