India advances to 3rd spot in FIH Rankings after winning Asian Champions Trophy

The Indian men’s hockey team advanced to the third position in the most recent FIH rankings, following their victory at the Asian Champions Trophy in Chennai. In the final of the continental championship held on Saturday, India managed to overcome a 1-3 deficit by defeating Malaysia with a score of 4-3.

The exceptional performance by the Indian team, led by Harmanpreet Singh and under the guidance of coach Craig Fulton, was evident as they emerged victorious in all their matches during the event. As a result of this outstanding display, India took over the third rank from England in the rankings.

Currently, India possesses a total of 2771.35 points, placing it in a position below the Netherlands and Belgium in the rankings. Belgium has accrued 2917.87 points, whereas the Netherlands secures the leading position with an impressive 3095.90 points. Holding the fourth position, England’s points stand at 2763.50.

Preceding the Asian Champions Trophy, India participated in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation International Tournament. In this event, India achieved a third-place finish, triumphing over the Netherlands with a score of 2-1 in the playoff for the third/fourth place.

The FIH rankings reveal that Germany, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Malaysia, and New Zealand secure the remaining six positions within the top ten. South Korea currently occupies the 12th spot, while Pakistan maintains its 16th position on the ranking list. Notably, Malaysia, who emerged as the runner-up in the champions trophy, claims the ninth spot in the rankings.
