On Tuesday, Satwik and Chirag regained their status as the world’s No. 1 badminton doubles, surpassing Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang of China, according to the latest rankings update from the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The Indian duo initially secured the number one ranking on October 10 of the previous year after their remarkable gold medal victory at the Asian Games, marking them as the first Indian shuttlers to achieve this feat in the history of the Asian Games. However, their reign was short-lived as Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang from China took over the top spot-on October 31.

Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced a setback after their subpar performance at the French Open and their withdrawal from the Denmark Open, causing them to drop to the third position temporarily. They managed to reclaim the second spot following their runner-up finish at the China Masters, where they were defeated by the then world number one pair, Liang and Wang.

In the previous season, Satwik-Chirag achieved several milestones for Indian badminton by securing victories in events such as the Badminton Asia Championships, Asian Games, and Indonesia Open Super 1000. However, their premature exits from the India Open, All England Open, Madrid Spain Masters, Thailand Open, and Korea Open prevented them from participating in the season-ending BWF World Tour Finals. This exclusive tournament is reserved for the top 8 elite shuttlers in the world rankings.
