On Monday, Indian Men’s Hockey Team faced a challenging draw in the men’s hockey competition for the 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite being the gold medalist at the Asian Games and winning bronze at the Tokyo Olympics, India finds itself in Group B alongside formidable opponents like reigning Olympic champion Belgium, Australia, Rio Games gold medalist Argentina, New Zealand, and Ireland. This announcement followed the conclusion of both the men’s and women’s hockey Olympic qualifiers. Presently on a tour of South Africa, India holds the third position in the world rankings of Hockey, trailing behind Belgium and the Netherlands. The Men in Blue are anticipated to face a formidable challenge in overcoming strong adversaries such as Australia and Argentina. Meanwhile, Pool A comprises the Netherlands, Germany, Great Britain, Spain, France, and South Africa.

In the recent qualifiers held in Ranchi, the Indian women’s team fell short of securing a spot by losing both the semifinal to Germany and the third-place playoff against Japan. The successful teams from the Ranchi event were Germany, the USA, and Japan. The defending champion, the Netherlands, finds itself in Group A alongside Belgium, Germany, Japan, China, and host France. Group B includes Australia, Argentina (the current silver medalist), Great Britain, Spain, the USA, and South Africa. The team groupings are based on their respective world rankings. The hockey competitions at the Paris Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 27 to August 9, with the overall event running from July 26 to August 11.
