Indian Football Team Rejoins FIFA Top 100 Ranking After 5 Years

The SAFF Cup victory propelled the Indian Football Team into the 90s of FIFA Rankings released on Thursday, for the very first time after 2018. Indian team ranks 99th now owing to its recent performances. India recently defeated strong national opponents Lebanon and Kuwait on penalties in the semifinal and final of the SAFF Championships in Bengaluru.

Lebanon rose two places to 100th, just below India, while Kuwait rose four places to 137th in the current FIFA rankings. Lebanon and Kuwait received invitations to the SAFF Championships to guarantee a high level of clashes.

India presently has a total of 1208.69 points. India’s highest FIFA rating was 94th in 1996. The nation was also ranked 99th in 1993 and 96th in 2017 and 2018. It was ranked 100th in the previous month.

Argentina retained the overall leader, ahead of France, Brazil, England, and Belgium. Meanwhile, Japan ranked 20th in Asia, ahead of Iran (22), Australia (27), Korea (28) and Saudi Arabia (54) in the leading five.

The Indian men’s football squad moved up one position to 99th in the FIFA rankings for the very first time after 2018.
