Indian Contingent Shines Bright with Medal Haul at Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023

Indian rollerskaters showcased their excellence at the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023, securing a total of nine medals. Md Nissar achieved gold in the 30m slalom event, while Aryan and Abhijit emerged victorious in the 2 x 100 relay.

Judo also proved fruitful for India, with Prince Solanki earning bronze in the male Level 2 category and Muskan claiming gold in the female Level 3 category, marking India’s first gold in Judo at the World Games 2023.

The Indian contingent continued to excel in the table tennis arena, securing three medals in the sport on that day. In an all-Indian U21-D3 final, Vighnesh Lokeshwar Naik triumphed over Gunocean Singh Bedi with a 3-1 victory, earning the gold medal. In the Women’s singles 30-D3 category, Alivelamma Gujjala displayed unbeatable form, dominating her opponents throughout the competition to claim the gold medal. Despite dropping just one game in four matches, Alivelamma emerged as a dominant force on her way to the top of the podium.

India’s powerlifting dominance persisted as they claimed four more medals, strengthening their overall achievement. Anurag Prasad showcased his excellence in the 93kg category, earning three gold medals (squat, deadlift, combined) and one silver in the bench press. With the culmination of Friday’s events in Berlin, India’s medal tally reached an impressive 96, comprising 33 gold, 37 silver, and 25 bronze medals.

In both cycling and tennis, Indian athletes will not only compete for medals but also aim to secure the coveted gold in various categories.
