Following a demanding two-week training camp at the Tau Devi Lal Stadium here, an 18-person Indian badminton team will depart for Indonesia on Tuesday to compete in the Junior Asia Championships 2023.
From July 7 to July 16, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, will host the continental championships.
The 14-day training camp, sponsored by REC Limited, the Badminton Association of India (BAI), and the Sports Authority of India (SAI), saw the players get intensive on-court and fitness instruction.
Sanjay Mishra, general secretary of the Badminton Association of India (BAI), stated,
“This two-week training camp has helped to create a nice build-up ahead of the tournament. I am confident this camp has also helped the team to bond and know each other better”
“We have a formidable squad that can challenge the best. I wish each of them as well as the coaching staff, all the best for the Championships.”
Group C includes Malaysia, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, and India. For the knockout round, the top two teams from each group will advance.
According to Vivek Kumar Dewangan, Chief Managing Director of REC Limited,
“The target is to groom and nurture our young players right from the sub-junior level. We have to identify the talent and provide them world-class training facilities and environment so that they can bring medals under Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS).”
The Indian Badminton team thus travels with high hopes and expectations to perform outstandingly at the Junior Asia Championships.
