India’s doubles badminton coach, Malaysia’s 47-year-old Tin Kim Her has stepped down from his post due to personal reasons.-- Advertisement --
His contract with the Badminton Association of India (BAI) was to end post the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. But citing personal reasons, the coach put down his papers during Senior Nationals.

About Tan Kim Her
Kim is a former Malaysian men’s doubles badminton player who achieved early success in his career. He was a runner up at the French Open in 1991, Chinese Taipei Open in 1992, China Open in 1994 and the Swiss Open in 1994. He secured a title at the Dutch Open in 1992.
Tim participated in the 1996 Summer Olympics in men’s doubles badminton with Soo Beng Kiang and defeated the no.3 seeds Rudy Gunawan and Bambang Suprianto of Indonesia in the last 16.
Kim turned into a coach after his playing career. The Malaysian coached his home’s junior squad for six years. Later he joined the South Korean National team in 2005 and became the first Malaysian to coach abroad.
A couple of years later, he joined the England national team. He came back to Malaysia in 2010 and started coaching in his homeland. In 2016, he was appointed as the Indian national team men’s doubles coach.
Kim’s journey as Indian Badminton coach
Tan Kim Her’s coaching took Indian badminton to newer heights when men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy clinched silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. He also helped India win the mixed team gold for the first time.
He also coached the women’s pair of N Sikki Reddy and Ashwini Ponnappa who secured the bronze medal at Gold Coast event.
Back in 2018, Mulyo Handoyo of Indonesia, India’s singles coach also left his contract citing personal reasons.
India is now waiting for the arrival of two new Korean coaches Kim Ji Hyun and Park Tae Sang.
