England defeated Indian women’s team in the first of the three-match T20I series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on Monday. The recent one day international series was clinched by India winning two of the three-match series. The T20 series seemed to be an ideal opportunity to take revenge and the hosts have succeeded in the same.
After winning the toss, England chose to bat first and set a target of 160 for India. Tammy Beaumont scored 62 runs off 57 balls which included nine boundaries. Beaumont and Danielle Wyatt exhibited a good partnership scoring 89 runs together before the first wicket. Danielle scored 35 runs including 5 fours.
Heather Knight stunned the opposite team by scoring 40 runs in just 20 balls that included 7 boundaries. However, she could not complete her half-century.

England gave a tough opening but lost two wickets when Natalie Sciver got out for just 4 at the score 95/2 in 13.1 overs. The team’s hope was now Knight who was still batting.
India, on the other hand, showed great bowling skills against the opposition. Radha Yadav, left-arm spinner took two wickets and gave 33 runs in four overs. Deepti Sharma took one wicket. Shikha Pandey stunned the rivals by taking a wicket and giving 18 runs in four overs. Poonam Yadav gave 18 runs but got no wicket by her side.

Second Innings
With the loss of openers Harleen Deol, captain Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, India suffered a tragic start in batting. In a run chase to 161, they went down to 23/3 in 3.3 overs. India had lost its best batswomen early and now the middle-order batswomen Mithali Raj and Veda Krishnamurthy served as a hope to the team.
India was not having a good time playing against England. Mithali, who served as a hope was out for 7 by Kate Cross and also Veda got dismissed taking India down to 46/5.
-- Advertisement --Later, Deepti Sharma(22 runs, 1 four) and Shikha Pandey (23 runs, 4 fours) took India’s score above 100. Then England bowlers Linsey Smith and Katherine Brunt took two wickets one each. At the end, Anya Shrubsole and Cross picked two wickets apiece leading to England’s win by 41 runs.
After England’s 1-0 lead, India will be playing their next (second) T20 series against the visitors on Thursday.
