IND vs NZ, 3rd ODI: India Thrashes New Zealand to Win ODI Series

The Indian Cricket team have beaten New Zealand in the 3rd ODI of the 5 matches ODI series at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand, today. This has given team India an unassailable 3-0 lead in the series. Chasing an average score of 244, Indian Captain Virat Kohli and Vice Captain Rohit Sharma put up a century stand while Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik finished the game with 7 wickets and 7 overs to spare.

Former Indian Captain MS Dhoni was rested for the match while Hardik Pandya made his much-awaited comeback after an unofficial ban of 4 games with an enquiry still pending over his controversial remarks in a chat show.

As it happened:

New Zealand batted first and the Indian pacers struck again. Mohammad Shami removed Colin Munro (7) while Bhuvaneshwar Kumar got the wicket of Martin Guptill (13). Captain Kane Williamson tried to steady the innings along with the experienced hand of Ross Taylor but he was out to a brilliant catch of Hardik Pandya off Yuzvendra Chahal. He made 28 (48).

 

Tom Latham joined Taylor. The duo added 117 runs for the 4th wicket. Both brought up their half centuries. Latham’s wicket changed the course of the game completely. Latham was out caught by Rayudu in the deep off Chahal. He made 51 (64) and then the Kiwis fell off like a pack of cards. Henry Nicholas (6), Mitchell Santner (3), Doug Bracewell (15), Ish Sodhi (12), Trent Boult (2). Ross Taylor was the lone ranger for the Black Caps but unfortunately, he too wasn’t able to complete his century. He made 93 (106) including 9 boundaries.

New Zealand was bowled out for 243 with an over left. For India, Shami picked up the most 3 wickets while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Chahal and Hardik Pandya picked up 2 wickets each.

Chasing an average target of 244, India had a pretty good start. Shikhar Dhawan started well until he was caught by Ross Taylor off Trent Boult. He made 28 (27). Virat joined Rohit and the duo stitched a partnership in excess of 100. Virat Kohli made 60 (74) which included 6 fours and a six. Rohit Sharma made 62 (77) including 3 fours and 2 big ones.

 

Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik finished off the game. Rayudu made 40 (42) while Karthik contributed 38 (38) helping India win the 3rd ODI in the 5 matches ODI series. This is India’s first series win in New Zealand after 10 years.

The 4th ODI will be played in Hamilton on 31st January 2019. Virat Kohli will miss the remainder of the tour as he is rested, Rohit Sharma will lead the team.
