Opportunities likely for Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill and Khaleel Ahmed
After a comprehensive 4-1 victory against hosts New Zealand in the ODI series, India is set to play a 3 match T20I series against the Kiwis. Indian Captain Virat Kohli is on a break and in his absence Vice Captain Rohit Sharma will lead the side for the 3 T20s, first one to be played on Wednesday, 6 February 2019.
India has a very poor record in T20 cricket against the Kiwis. They have won only 2 matches out of 8 played between them. The Indian team will look to change the history books by winning a T20 series against the Blackcaps, against whom they haven’t won any. In the absence of Kohli, India will look to experiment a few players. Let us look at the probable XI for the T20 series.
Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma will definitely open the innings. Both the openers showed good form in the first 3 ODI’S against the Kiwis but couldn’t contribute much in the last 2 ODI’S. They will look to make plenty of runs as, in the absence of Kohli, the openers are very crucial for the team.
Youngster Shubman Gill who made his ODI international debut in the last 2 ODI’S against New Zealand but didn’t make merry, is also likely to get a chance to bat at Kohli’s spot. Another 19 years old, Rishabh Pant who have set the international cricket on fire since his debut will bat at number 4. Pant had a fabulous 2018, he recently won the ICC Emerging Player Award.
The most experienced and ever reliable MS Dhoni will play a helping hand to Rohit Sharma. He probably had a rough ODI series, also he didn’t play a couple of games due to injury. Kedar Jadhav and Hardik Pandya are the two all-rounders in the side. Jadhav proves very handy with his spin while Pandya can tonk the ball miles from the crease. Pandya have also a lot to prove after his 4-match suspension.
The wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal have made a lot of foreign players wanting in the last 15 months. Chahal was outstanding in the ODI’S and so was Yadav. Especially in the shorter format of the game the duo is lethal.
India is likely to go with two seamers for the first ODI which are Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Khaleed Ahmed. Khaleed Ahmed has a lot to prove for the team management to consider him for the World Cup. This will probably be his last opportunity before the major ICC event.
Team India hasn't dictated much when it comes to playing T20s against New Zealand!
After seeing these numbers and Team India's form, we can say that the action is about to get real in the T20 series starting from tomorrow! ?#NZvIND #NZvsIND #TheKiwiChallenge #T20 pic.twitter.com/ferP5RWSVA
