The India women’s T20 squad will compete in the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. The squad has a number of fresh players, including teenage fast-bowling all-rounder Titas Sadhu and lower-order batsman Kanika Ahuja.
Titas was named Player of the Match in the opening Women’s U19 T20 World Cup final for her 2/6 stint. And she was a member of the team who won the ACC Women’s Emerging Asia Cup in Hong Kong. Kanika, who was Titas’ companion in Hong Kong, appeared as a lower-order hitting batswoman in some of her performances for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the first Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.
Harleen Deol and Pooja Vastrakar have become reserves. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad comes back to the team after missing the previous tour of Bangladesh. As anticipated, Harmanpreet Kaur will serve as the team’s leader, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her assistant.
Notably, one of the 37 sports that will be contested during the 2022 Asian Games is cricket. India will be participating in the women’s T20 competition for the very first time. The Women’s T20 competition was staged for the first time at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham last year.
The women’s cricket tournament will be held at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field from September 19–28 in a T20 style.
