Indian team reached a new high at the Under-15 Girls Wrestling Championships by taking away 7 medals at the recently concluded Asian Under-15 Girls Championships in Fujimi, Japan. This maul included 3 gold medals in India’s kitty.
Amongst the gold medal winners, one of them was won by World Cadet bronze medal winner Sweety in 43 kg category. Besides this, India has also won three silver and one bronze at the event which included the participation from eight nations.
Japan finished at the top position by winning six gold medals out of the 10 weight categories. Notably, this was the inaugural event of the U-15 Girls Wrestling Championships.

India stood second with 181 points, just behind Japan (202 points). Kazakhstan with 125 points finished at the third place.
In the final bout of the 43kg category, wrestler Sweety defeated Japan’s Miwa Magara to win gold for India. Other gold medals came in the 33kg category from Pooja Rani who defeated Kazakhstan’s Anna Nazarenko (by a technical fall).

The third gold for India was won by Komal in 36 kg category. She defeated Japan’s Fuka Kondo. Silver medals for the nation came from Pinki (39 kg), Antim (48 kg) and Bhagyashree Fand (58 kg)
While Pinki and Antim lost to Japan’s Miu Obata and Yu Sakamoto respectively, Bhagyashree failed to get the better of another Japanese Hanami Yamanouchi. India’s lone bronze medal was bagged by Pratibha Janghu (54kg), who lost to Altjin Togtokh of Mongolia.
