India, the reigning champions, will strive to uphold their impressive legacy and secure a ninth title as they prepare to confront a formidable Kuwait team in the SAFF Championship final in Bengaluru on Tuesday. Leading the charge at the age of 38, captain Sunil Chhetri continues to inspire India with his exceptional performances.

Having netted five of the team’s seven goals in the tournament, including a crucial strike against Kuwait during the group stage, Chhetri’s impact cannot be understated. While Udanta Singh and Naorem Mahesh have also contributed to the score sheet.

India also acknowledges the necessity for additional goal-scoring options to sustain their unbeaten home record and claim the coveted regional title for the ninth time.

Throughout the tournament, India’s defensive performance has been exemplary, having conceded a mere single goal across four matches. The team’s backline is set to receive a significant boost with the return of Sandesh Jhingan, who was previously suspended for the semifinal against Kuwait on Saturday.

Despite Jhingan’s absence, India’s defense showcased resilience, leaving little room for concern. However, as they gear up for their next challenge, the defense is aware that it will face one of its most formidable tests thus far. Nonetheless, the spotlight remains on the strikers and improving their efficiency in front of the goal will be crucial for India’s success moving forward.
