Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), A data collection firm, revealed after a research that Sports viewership on TV in India has soared to 46 billion impressions in 2018.
With the data for seven more weeks yet to come this calendar year, TV audience for sports in India has already registered an increase of 7% from the impressions that were recorded in 2017. There is still a possibility for more leads after the last seven weeks data of the calendar year 2018 that will be revealed soon.
The 2018 year has been successful for the Indian sports with successful spells at the Asian Games 2018, the ever-increasing football atmosphere in the country, and the continuous dominating performance of Indian cricket team. This has increased television viewership of sports.
The Television Post website taking reference from BARC India, reported the correct figure of the week 46 of 2018, which represented a rise of 3 billion as compared to 2017 when there were close to 43 billion impressions.
Among all the sports, football and cricket recorded a dramatic growth whereas Kabaddi recorded a somewhat plummeting figure.
The dominance was unsurprisingly seen in cricket, where its share in the sports viewership marked the rise of seven percent in 2018.
Football has also seen a dramatic rise of more than four percent. The reason behind it can be attributed to England’s top flight football league, the Premier League which recorded the most youth audiences – with almost 51 percent under 30. The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup which was held in Russia recorded a noteworthy 43 percent share of viewership.
More availability of football and cricket content on television channels this year can be seen as one of the major contributors to the dramatic growth of viewership in these two sports.
