Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, who clinched gold at the Asian Games 2022, along with bronze medallist HS Prannoy, secured contrasting triumphs as they advanced to the semi-finals of the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2024. The prestigious tournament, hosted by the Badminton Association of India, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Friday.

While Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy secured a commanding 21-7, 21-10 victory over Denmark’s Kim Astrup and Anders Rasmussen. HS Prannoy faced a tough battle to earn his inaugural spot in the tournament’s semi-finals. Prannoy clinched victory in a hard-fought contest against Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei, winning the match with a scoreline of 21-11, 17-21, 21-18.

Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy showed their dominance from the start, taking an 11-3 lead in the opening game. The pair continued their relentless attack against the fifth-seeded opponents, winning the first game in a swift 16-minute display of talent and determination.

In the lead-up to this match, the Danish pair had secured two consecutive victories over Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy. However, the second-ranked pair in the world put an end to that streak by scoring eight consecutive points in the second game, clinching the victory and setting the stage for an eagerly anticipated showdown with former World Champions Soh Wooi Yik and Aaron Chia of Malaysia.
