India Made Promising Start with Gold, Silver, Bronze at Asian Track Cycling Championships

Cyclists from India made a promising start to the Asian Track Cycling Championships. They claimed the top spot in the women’s junior team sprint event, secured a silver in the Para-Team Sprint, and earned a bronze in the junior Team Pursuit on Wednesday. Demonstrating exceptional skill and teamwork, the Indian trio of Sarita Kumari, Niya Sebastian, and Zaina Mohammed Ali Pirkhan dominated the Korean team to win gold with a time of 53.383 seconds.

Niya stated after the race:

“It is like a dream for us to beat the strongest team in Asia. We did it with our teamwork.”

The para-cycling team, comprising Arshad Shaikh, Jalaluddin Ansari, and Basavaraj Horaddi, clinched silver in the Para-Team Sprint with an impressive time of 1:02.661 seconds. Malaysia took the gold with a time of 52.284 seconds, while Saudi Arabia settled for the bronze.

Harshita Jakhar and Dhanyadha JP, comprising the Women’s Junior team, clinched a deserving bronze in the highly competitive Team Pursuit competition by surpassing Chinese Taipei. The gold and silver medals were claimed by the Republic of Korea and Kazakhstan, respectively in Asian Track Cycling Championships.

Discussing on their performance, Dhanyadha said:

“It was a neck-to-neck fight, and we were fortunate to clinch the bronze. This moment feels like a dream—a testament to the dedication and hard work that goes into competing at the Asian Championships.”
