Ever since its inception in 1951, India has wielded its dominance in the Asian Games. The nation has proudly participated in every edition of this quadrennial spectacle and even showcased its hosting prowess in the inaugural edition at New Delhi in 1951. In that edition, India soared to a remarkable feat, securing the second position with a total of 51 medals (15 gold, 16 silver, and 20 bronze. There have been more than 670 medals won by India at the Asian Games since then, including 155 gold medals, 201 silver medals, and 316 bronze medals.

India is the fifth-most successful nation at these Games, having won a gold medal at every event to date. At the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, India outdid itself by smashing its own medal records. A historic total of 70 medals was earned, marking a remarkable achievement for the nation. Among the standout performances, athletics claimed a lion’s share of the glory with an impressive haul of 20 medals, an outcome that hardly came as a surprise.
