India dominate yet another shooting World Cup as Manu, Saurabh win big

Manu Bhaker and Saurabh Chaudhary put up another remarkable comeback to clinch the gold in the mixed 10m air pistol event of the Rio de Janeiro leg of ISSF World Cup. As a result, India ended another WC campaign at the top with 9 medals- 5 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze.

India won the maximum medals on the last day of the tournament with Abhishek Verma and Yashaswini Deswal winning silver in the same event.

Earlier in the competition, women’s 10m air rifle World No.1 Apurvi Chandela had joined forces with Deepak Kumar to bag India’s fourth gold on the final day. The duo clinched the yellow metal in the mixed air rifle event.

The respective victories meant that the country ensured an unprecedented top finish across this year’s all four ISSF World Cup stages, including the Junior World Cup.

Representing India 2, Anjum Moudgil and Divyansh Singh Panwar bagged the bronze. The duo had championed the two previous editions of the World Cup in the same event

All-India Final in Mixed 10m Air Pistol

The country has been dominating the pistol and rifle events in the WC this year. But supremacy we a step further in the Rio leg of the competition with two Indian teams – Manu-Saurabh & Abhishek-Yashaswini- fighting for the top honours in the finals of the Mixed 10m Air Pistol.

Although the latter showed great spirit, the former, the enticing contest concluded at 17-15 with the more experienced duo of Manu and Saurabh prevailing again.

The pair have been winning the event for four straight World Cups this year. Earlier, they had shot 394 out of 400 in round two of qualification, including a breath taking 100 each in the final 10-shot series, to finish at the top of the eight-team round. Yashaswini and Abhishek, on the other hand, came second with 386. The duo had been in fresh from after winning individual gold medals in the competition earlier.

Apurvi Chandela-Deepa Kumar win easy gold

Earlier in the competition, the Mixed Rifle pair of Apurvi and Deepak thrashed Chinese duo of Yu Haonan and Yang Qian 16-6 in what was a one-sided final. The duo won 8 of the 11 single-shot duels between the teams to clinch top honours.

The victories will not be of much significance since most of the Indian shooters have already qualified for the Olympics.
