Game India vo difficulty. s Ireland: How it Happened?
Mithali Raj struck an absolute 51 runs as India posted a total of 145 for 6 that was already looked too strong for Ireland. The lowest ranked Ireland team finished with a struggling 93-8 as Indian bowler Radha Yadav gave a superb spell of 3-25.
At the beginning of the match, Ireland won the toss and chose to bowl first. Smriti Mandhana and Mithali Raj started attacking against the Irish bowlers since the very first ball. With a flurry of boundaries, it looked like both the opening batswomen were in a mood to attack.
Even after Mandhana got out, Mithali kept scoring runs for the team with other joining batswomen.
India lost its three wickets in quick succession, in the form of Jemimah Rodrigues, Veda Krishnamurthy and Harmanpreet Kaur.
But Mithali sustained the momentum of the runs and completed her half-century in style before losing her wicket to Garth. With Mithali as the top-scorer, India managed to put up 145-6 on the scoreboard.
Ireland had a tough time batting on the field against Indian bowlers. Radha Yadav and Mansi Joshi gave some beautiful spells, thus putting Irish batswomen into difficulty.
With the descending of quick wickets, Ireland lost to India by 52 runs by finishing on 93-8 in 20 overs.
Mithali Raj was declared as the player of the match for her 51-run innings.
Captain Harmanpreet Happy but demands more from the team
At the post-match presentation, captain Harmanpreet Kaur said, “Happy to qualify into the semis. But there are still a lot of areas to improve. It’s a short format, so sometimes when your main bowler doesn’t bowl according to plan, so you need other bowlers to bowl. That’s why Jemmy and I bowled today.”
“To win the WT20, we need to be aggressive in the field. And today, we didn’t bat according to our plans. Same with the bowlers, so need to improve in those areas,” Harmanpreet added.
India will now face Australia in their last group game, though both of the teams have reached to the semifinals of the Women’s World T20.
