India vs Australia 2nd ODI highlights: India Clinch 500th ODI Victory in Style

India beat Australia by 8 runs in the second ODI today and took a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. Adding two more reasons to celebrate, India registers its 500th ODI win and Indian captain Virat Kohli’s hit his career’s 40th century.

The last over bowled by Vijay Shankar was the highlight of the match when Australia needed 11 runs from 6 balls out but Vijay took two wickets with Australian team all out for 242 and the hosts won by 8 runs.

First Innings

After winning the toss, Australian team decided to field. Indian opener Rohit Sharma got six-ball duck out at the end of first over by Australian bowler Pat Cummins. Australian bowlers took wickets every now and then but Virat Kohli was the one batsman who played throughout and scored 116 runs until the 47.1 over when he got caught out. Virat Kohli became the man of the match.

Vijay Shankar batted fabulously, scoring 46 runs before getting run-out unluckily. Australian bowler Pat Cummins secured four wickets and the spin trio of Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa and Nathan Lyon disturbed the Indian batting order in the middle overs. India was all out in 48.2 overs setting a target of 251 runs for Australia.

Second Innings

Australian openers Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch gave a great start to the match whereas Indian bowlers struggled to degrade the opposition. Finally after 13.1 overs, Indian bowler Vijay Shankar managed to take one wicket with Australia at score 83-1. Another quick wicket happened in the next overtaken by Kedar Jadhav leaving Australia at 83-2.

By the end of 18th over, Australia had completed their 100. Now they required another 151 runs from 187 balls which seemed to be an easy catch with eight wickets remaining. Australian players were getting out at frequent intervals. Indian spinners gave them a tough time to the batsmen. Another crucial wicket was taken by Kuldeep Yadav in 44th over when Alex Carey walked back. Again two back to back wickets in the 45th over set the competition higher.

Marcus Stoinis scored 52 runs and got out at 49.1 over which was a crucial wicket in the match. The third umpire decided that the ball was tracking confirmed that the ball by Vijay Shankar was just clipping the leg stump and the winner was clear. Australian was all out at 242. India won the match establishing a 2-0 lead against Australia.

The next (third) ODI between India and Australia will be on Friday, 8 March in the JSCA international stadium in Ranchi.
