India’s 31 run victory against Australia in the first Test match at Adelaide was big on many counts. It was just sixth Indian win on Australian soil but most importantly it was India’s first win ever in the first match of a Test series in Australia.
The victory also puts Virat Kohli as a captain above not just all Indian captains but all Asian captains. No other Asian captain has ever won a Test match in Australia, England and South Africa. Captain Kohli has achieved this in a calendar year which is an unbelievable feat.
Former Indian captains Rahul Dravid and MS Dhoni won Test matches in South Africa and England but could never manage a victory in Australia.
Virat Kohli becomes the first Asian captain with Test wins in Australia, England, and South Africa!
It's only the second time India have won three Tests outside the subcontinent in a calendar yearhttps://t.co/1PcCB7zwun #AUSvIND pic.twitter.com/Y9rrXUeBvM

Amazing grit displayed by the Australian lower order, but this is a moment to savour for a long time for Team India. The bowlers gave it everything and let’s just enjoy this and carry the momentum into the Perth Test #AusvInd

KL Rahul’s Catch Controversy: As it Happened
India needed the final wicket to seal the match. R Ashwin bowled his off-spinner, it edged the bat of Josh Hazelwood and KL Rahul took a fantastic catch at second slip.
But the controversy occurred when Fox News raised questions over the catch on whether it was clean or not.
Former Australian skipper Ricky Ponting told Channel 7, “It was a little bit hard to tell from the initial angles. We saw most of the angles from behind. It carries well and truly, easily enough and if anything it looks like it dips down into the ground. It looks like a clean catch to me and guesses what, it’s too late now anyway. The game’s over.”
Was the final catch clean?

While it is clear that Rahul’s fingers were firmly under the ball and the on-field umpire Nigel Llong made sure with his naked eye that the catch was clean.
