India ‘A’ Women’s Team Defeats France ‘A’ by 2-0, Take 2-1 Series Lead

India ‘A’ women’s hockey team celebrated a victory after defeating France ‘A’ 2-0 in the third match to take a 2-1 lead in the four-match series at the Padma Shri Mohammad Shahid Synthetic Hockey Stadium in Lucknow on Tuesday.

Initially, the match was dominated by the visitor team. Then local girls Mumtaz Khan and Sharmila Devi showed their sportsman spirit and scored for the home team. Mumtaz Khan scored in the 42nd minute and Sharmila Devi scored in the 60th minute.

Indian team was excellent at the defense strategies. They went through two goal-less quarters but finally managed to break the deadlock in the 42nd minute through young striker Mumtaz.

Indian goalkeeper Bichi Devi Kharibam had become a threat for the French as even after getting several chances, they could not achieve a goal. Bichi saved many goals brilliantly that helped the Indian team to take its lead into the last quarter.

Some reflex saves from the Indian custodian meant that the hosts took their lead into the last quarter.

The last quarter saw an immense struggle of both the teams for the next goal of the match. Sharmila Devi, an Indian player, scored in the last minute to help her team come out the winner.
Therefore, India won by 2-0 and rejoiced

The India A women’s team will play their fourth and last match of the series against France on Wednesday, 13th February.
