Ind vs Eng Test: During Day 3 of the third Test against England in Rajkot, the Indian team players sported black armbands, a gesture of tribute. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) clarified that this act was in honor of the late former India captain Dattajirao Gaekwad, who recently succumbed to age-related illnesses on Tuesday, February 13, at the age of 95. Gaekwad held the distinction of being the oldest living cricketer at the time of his demise.

Significantly, Gaekwad participated in 11 Test matches and served as the captain of the Indian team during their tour of England in 1959. Demonstrating his leadership prowess, he guided Baroda to victory in the Ranji Trophy during the 1957-58 season, prevailing over Services in the championship match. This triumph in the Ranji Trophy significantly contributed to his selection as the national team captain the following year.

With Ravichandran Ashwin absent, India needed a solid start on Day 3, which they achieved as Jasprit Bumrah once more outplayed Joe Root. Attempting a reverse sweep against the Indian pacer, the former England captain mistimed the shot. The ball traveled to the second slip, where Yashasvi Jaiswal was positioned, and he grabbed a remarkable catch, dismissing Root and sending him back to the pavilion.
