IND vs ENG 2024: “Love watching them lose,” Tim Paine and Brad Haddin Mock England After Series Loss to India

IND vs ENG 2024: Former Australian cricketers Brad Haddin and Tim Paine shared their insights on the challenging situation that England currently faces during the ongoing Test tour of India. The English team initially secured a 28-run victory in the opening Test in Hyderabad but struggled subsequently, losing the following three matches in Vizag, Rajkot, and Ranchi, leading to an overall series defeat. In the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, led by Ben Stokes, England faced a setback after being dismissed for 218 on the first day, putting them on the verge of a 4-1 series loss. Following the series defeat in Ranchi, Stokes remarked that the scoreline does not accurately represent the competitiveness of the series. He also emphasized that England has not been perceived as ‘pushovers’ on Indian soil, unlike some other teams in recent history.

Haddin said that:

“It sounded like a thinly veiled sledge, didn’t it? You can’t fault Ben Stokes because he has been magnificent tactically in this series. England have got a very young spin attack in tough conditions in the sub-continent but young Rehan Ahmed, Tom Hartley, Shoaib Bashir have been fantastic and Ben Stokes deserves a lot of credit for that.”

But he has been playing against the Indian B team because there has been no Kohli, no Shami, Bumrah got rested last Test, KL Rahul is out and Rishabh Pant is still making his way back from that accident. They are not their strongest team but it just goes to show that the depth in Indian cricket is huge because there are some big names coming into this next era of Indian cricket. Jaiswal is leading the charge; young Jurel was magnificent in the last Test as well. So India are looking very strong.”

During the 2020-21 season, India emerged victorious in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy while playing in Australia, led by captain Ajinkya Rahane. This achievement is noteworthy considering the team faced numerous injuries and played without their regular captain, Virat Kohli, who was on paternity leave at the time. Tim Paine, the captain of the Australian Test team that suffered a defeat to India on home soil, openly recognized the challenges faced by the weakened Indian side. Paine, while admitting his preference for England to lose, also commended their aggressive Bazball approach.

Tim Paine said:

“Yeah, I think Katich has absolutely nailed it. I totally agree with him and I know what it’s like to be beaten by an Indian B team. Unfortunately, it happened to us on our home soil. But yes, some huge names out for India, which should have certainly helped the English. I thoroughly enjoy watching England play the game, I love the way they are going about it. I love watching them lose. Don’t get me wrong but they are entertaining and exciting. They have been for Test cricket.”

In response to Stokes’ comment, Haddin described it as a playful jab. Although he commended Stokes’ leadership during the series, Haddin noted that the Indian team is not at full strength due to the absence of some key players.
