Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground and elected to bat first. India playing with two new openers – Debutant Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari gave the much-needed start for the experienced Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli to cash on. At stumps on Day 1, India has put up 215/2.
1st Session:
India dropped Murli Vijay and KL Rahul who performed poorly in the first two Test matches and roped in Mayank Agarwal and promoted Hanuma Vihari up the order. The duo did exactly what was needed – to see off the new ball. Vihari contributed only 8 but he faced a total of 66 balls until he was ruffled by an unplayable Pat Cummins’ bouncer. The opening partnership lasted for nearly 19 overs making 40 runs.
