The Australian batsmen displayed grit on Day one of the second test at the new Optus stadium in Perth but weren’t able to capitalize on their starts. Part time Indian bowler Hanuma Vihari and spearhead Ishant Sharma claimed 2 wickets each as Australia made 277/6 at the end of day’s play.
First Session
Australian captain Tim Paine won the toss and elected to bat first and the openers didn’t disappoint him. Aaron Finch and Marcus Harris batted brilliantly in the first session. The Indian bowlers weren’t bad either but it just wasn’t a lucky session to the Indian quicks (Virat Kohli has played 4 fast bowlers – Ishant Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav in the game). The first session went wicketless for India as the Australian opening pair put up 66 on the board.

Second Session
As soon as Virat Kohli tossed the ball to India’s premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, he struck Aaron Finch onto his pads and found him plumb before the wicket. Finch made 50 and the 112 run opening stand was broken.
Immediately later, Usman Khwaja – Australia’s most technical batsman presently was dismissed by Umesh Yadav. Khwaja made only 5. Part-time bowler Hanuma Vihari got an important wicket of Marcus Harris who was batting on 70. He edged one and Ajinkya Rahane doesn’t miss any at first slip.
From 112/0, Australia were 134/3 and when the teams headed for a tea break Australia were 145/3.

Shaun Marsh and Travis Head came together and stitched a partnership of 84 before Hanuma Vihari struck again and dismissed Marsh for 45. He edged one to first slip and Rahane took a ripper.

Travis Head was looking good until he played an Ishant Sharma delivery straight in the hands of Mohammad Shami at third man. Head made 58.
At the end of day’s play, Australia is 277/6 with skipper Tim Paine on 16 and Pat Cummins on 11.
