Captain Virat Kohli slammed 104 off 112 balls, his 39th ODI ton and 5th in Australia to help India level the 3 match series, 1-1 against Australia.
Chasing 299, India lost Shikhar Dhawan early, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli then put up a partnership and later it was former captain MS Dhoni along with Kohli to set India the game. Finally, Dhoni hit his patent six to finish off the game in style.

India vs Australia 2nd ODI: As it happened
Earlier, Australian Captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bat. His decision proved rather costly to himself. He was clean bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar without making any significant contribution. He made 6 off 19 balls. Wicketkeeper-batsman Alex Carrey too departed in the next over. He was caught by Shikhar Dhawan off Mohammad Shami trying to pull. He made 18 off 27 balls.
Lightning quick from MSD. Handscomb goes for the powerful sweep and is beaten. Dhoni is quick as anything and whips the bails off.

It looked like a partnership was developing between Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh but it was due to an outstanding throw from Ravindra Jadeja that Khawaja had to walk back to the pavilion. He made 21 off 23 balls.
Peter Handscomb made 20 off 22 balls until MS Dhoni stumped him off Ravindra Jadeja. Marcus Stoinis, who was sent ahead of Glenn Maxwell made 29 (36) but it was Glenn Maxwell’s 48 (37) and Shaun Marsh’s magnificent 131 (123) that propelled Australia to a score of 298/9.
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar was the pick of India’s bowling. He picked up 4 wickets, giving away only 45 runs. Mohammad Shami claimed 3 wickets and gave away 58 runs.
India’s innings
Chasing a target of 299, India had a good start. Shikhar Dhawan looked good until he was caught by Usman Khawaja off Jason Behrendorff. He made 32 off 28 balls. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli stitched together a fine partnership until Sharma mistimed one off Marcus Stoinis. He made 43 off 52 balls which included 2 fours and 2 sixes.
India might have locked Ambati Rayadu as their number 4 but he didn’t look one bit comfortable on the crease. Merely looking for big shots, he was not able to rotate strike along with captain Kohli. He finally held onto the deep off Maxwell. He made 24 in his 36 ball stay.

Former captain MS Dhoni joined Kohli and Kohli started batting freely. He brought up his 39th ODI century, 5th in Australia. His 104 (112) included 5 fours and 2 sixes.
And then he times a ball straight into the hands of Maxwell off Richardson. Dinesh Karthik accompanied Dhoni to get the needed runs. Karthik made 25*(15) and with 6 runs needed off the last over, Dhoni finished it off in style. He made 55* (54).
And of course, that is how it has always been! Never trying to be centre-stage. https://t.co/VAjbJl1K7g

This is Virat’s 6th ODI against Australia, and third in Australia. This is his 11th ton in Australia across all formats, the highest by any player. This is also his first ton in the year 2019. In his previous 19 innings, Kohli has hammered his 9th ODI century.

Fantastic run chase by India . Excellent 100 from Virat, he makes it look very easy. Was wonderful to see Dhoni finish of the game beautifully and Dinesh Karthik’s cameo was very very important in the end. The final game should be a cracker.
