IIS to Host 2023-24 National Cadet Judo Championships

Inspire Institute of Sport (IIS) in Bellary, Vijayanagar, is all set to host the highly anticipated 2023-24 National Cadet Judo Championships from the 7th to the 9th of July 2023, according to an announcement made by the prestigious High-Performance Center on Wednesday. The tournament, held in collaboration with the Judo Federation of India (JFI), will take place at the cutting-edge combat arena located within the facility.

This championship marks the third major national competition to be organized at the IIS in the past year. The venue had the honor of hosting the National Sub Junior and Junior Boxing Nationals in 2022, followed by the Indian Open-Throws and Jumps Competition in March.

Anticipated to attract a multitude of immensely talented Judokas from various corners of the country, the upcoming National Cadet Judo Championships hold great promise. In addition to these national contenders, the tournament will also feature several Judokas who have received training at the IIS across different weight categories. A total of 11 skilled Judokas from the IIS will be participating in the event, representing four states.

Notably, the Manipur contingent will comprise eight formidable Judokas from the IIS. The participants from Manipur include Oliviya Devi (44kg), Nungshithoi Chanu (52 kg), Roni Devi (57 kg), Deepapati (70 kg), Yohenba (55 kg), Wangthoi (66 kg), and Suraj Singh (60 Kg). Meanwhile, Linthoi Chanambam holds the prestigious title of India’s first-ever Judo World Champion. He will represent Manipur in the 63 kg weight category. Another prominent participant is Yash Vijayran. He is an accomplished IIS Judoka who has secured a spot in the upcoming 2023 Asian Games. He will be representing Delhi in the +100 kg category. Moreover, Ishroop Narang will showcase her skills on behalf of Chandigarh in the +70 kg category. Furthermore, Kentu Lap will represent Arunachal Pradesh in the 60 kg weight category.

Meanwhile, Rajan C.S., Assistant Secretary of Judo Federation of India, regarding the championship, said,

“It is the privilege of the Judo Federation of India to hold the National Cadet Judo Championships in association with the Inspire Institute of Sports at Bellary. 234 Boys, 228 Girls and 126 officials from all 31 JFI affiliated States/Units are taking part, and this is the time that JFI is conducting an independent National for Cadet Boys & Girls with full sponsorship. The JFI appreciates IIS and JSW for taking up this Championship as a long-time partner for the development of Judo in India.”
