Indian Cricket team skipper Virat Kohli has maintained his top position as per the latest ICC  Test Cricket rankings.

While Newzealand’s Kane Williamson shone with the bat in Abu Dhabi and was richly rewarded with the 2nd spot with 913 points, number-one ranked Virat Kohli managed only three and 34 in his side’s impressive 31-run victory over Australia at the picturesque Adelaide Oval.

As a result, Kohli has conceded 15 points to slip to 920 points, just seven points ahead of Williamson.

With Kane Williamson being so close, the Indian captain will aim to perform strongly with the bat in the second test that will start in Perth from Friday. If not so he may potentially lose his number one ranking that he has been holding since the Edgbaston Test against England in August.

New entry into India’s Test setup, Prithvi Shaw entered the list of Test batsmen at the 73rd spot after a fine century on his debut in the Rajkot Test.

Cheteshwar Pujara to Top 5

Man of the Match of the Adelaide test Cheteshwar Pujara has returned to top five. Pujara’s knocks of 123 and 71 were the pillar for India’s win in the opening Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval. The batsman has now moved ahead of Joe Root and David Warner in the fourth position. He is behind third-ranked Smith by 55 points, and ahead of Root by 39 points.

It came as a surprise for Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah who has achieved a career-high ranking of 33 after his 3-47 spell at Adelaide. This sensational performance at Adelaide helped him to rise by five places.

The other two notable players from Adelaide test who improved their rankings are Ajinkya Rahane & Mitchell Starc. Ajinkya Rahane gained two places and moved from 19th to 17th in the list of ICC test batsman rankings. Ajinkya’s 70-run knock in second innings of Adelaide test helped him improve his spot. Mitchell Starc moved to 16th place from the previous 18th in bowlers’ rankings.
