With floral garlands gracing his neck, amidst the backdrop of bursting firecrackers and the cheers of supporters, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh confidently displayed the victory sign for the cameras. At his side stood Sanjay Singh, Brij Bhushan’s chosen candidate, who secured the position of president for the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Thursday. Sanjay Singh’s victory was marked by a decisive triumph over former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Anita Sheoran, with a margin of 40-7. As jubilation unfolded at Brij Bhushan’s parliamentary residence near Jantar Mantar, a notable protest site, emotions ran high for Sakshi Malik and Vinesh Phogat. The two athletes, speaking at the Press Club of India in New Delhi, couldn’t contain their tears amidst the unfolding events.
