‘I felt like my time in this world was up’- Rishabh Pant remembers tragic car accident

Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant endured numerous injuries after a harrowing car accident on December 30, 2022. Within moments, the vehicle ignited, but fortunately, the 26-year-old managed to escape with the assistance of locals. Despite this stroke of luck, he sustained significant injuries to his head, back, and feet, including a ligament tear in his right knee and multiple cuts on various parts of his body. Promptly taken to a nearby hospital, the cricketer underwent intensive rehabilitation and training. Now, he is poised to return to professional cricket in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. Reflecting on the near-fatal incident, the cricketer, hailing from Haridwar, revealed that doctors had initially informed him that recovery might span 16-18 months.

Rishabh Pant dedicated a significant portion of his rehabilitation period to the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Throughout this period, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) managed both his financial support and general well-being, anticipating his participation in all upcoming IPL matches. Recently, the left-handed batsman joined the Indian team in Bengaluru during their third T20I against Afghanistan and is scheduled to captain the Delhi Capitals in the 17th edition of the lucrative league.
