For a city that boasts of the dominant football culture and has always clamoured for a place in the Indian Super League, this ISL has been great news. Hyderabad FC is the latest addition to the magnificent list of clubs competing in the Hero Indian Super League.

The city’s association with football dates back to the 1950s when Hyderabad City Police were one of the best teams in domestic football. The team had 9 Rover Cup titles and 2 Durand Cup titles to their name. Last time the city caught up a major association with football, it was the host to the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008.

Hyderabad FC made inroads into the franchise-based league with the exit of FC Pune City which saw numerous financial issues for the past two years.

About the owners

Vijay Madduri, Varun Tripuraneni, and Ranna Daggubati are the joint owners of the Hyderabad FC franchise.

Vijay Madduri is a Hyderabad resident and an IT entrepreneur. Before moving into this sports venture, he was the Founder and CEO of Incessant Technologies.

Varun Tripurneni is not a new face in the ISL circle. He has been associated with ISL under different garbs. From managing Kerala Blasters FC in the inaugural season, moving to Chennaiyin FC as the Chief Operating Officer and heading Kerala Blasters FC as the Chief Executive Officer, he is now the owner of an ISL team.

If there are has to be a list of two historical heritages for which Hyderabad is famous, Charminar and Kohinoor diamond will undoubtedly be in the top 2.

The logo encapsulates the city’s historical pride with the minarets of Charminar and the golden texture representing Kohinoor.

There is an attempt to revive and relive Hyderabad’s extraordinary football legacy.

Hyderabad FC Players 2019

The first draft

Phil Brown, former Hull City manager, has been handed the responsibility of the team’s journey in its first season. Brown will be the head coach of the team for this at least. Brown, during his managerial stint at Hull City, led the side to great heights in English football for the first time in the club’s 100+ years existence.

Aidan Davison will be assisting Phil Brown and the team as goalkeeper coach. Davison is former Northern Irish footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Davison, like Brown, is also associated with Hull City as a former reserve manager for the team.

The team has signed Giles Barnes, a Jamaican national player, as the first marquee player for the club.

Young Kamaljit Singh will lead the team. Kamaljit is also one of the goalkeepers for the Indian national football team.

The Pre-season

The team has played seven pre-season matches and has remained unbeaten in all the matches. But none of the games were played in its fortress. The team’s performance in home matches is much awaited for the fans.

ISL 2019-20

The team will debut against ATK on 25th October 2019 in their maiden ISL.
