India booming in the Sports sector
India prides on itself for being a sports crazy nation. Sample this – Sports viewership on Television in India has soared to 46 billion impressions in 2018, it was revealed after a research conducted by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) – a data collection firm. Among the sports which recorded growth were football, cricket, and wrestling, whereas Kabaddi recorded a plummeting figure.
If you compare India’s interest and participation numbers with global figures, a very interesting and rather dismal pattern emerge. According to a report published in YourStory, the numbers show the co-relation between interest in sport and participation in organised sport. For every other country/region, there are national sports surveys where participation data are easily available. For India, this participation number is mentioned in this KPMG report titled ‘Business of Sports.’
Considering that the age groups of playing sports ranges from 6 to 60 years, these numbers seem a little anomalous. But, in recent years, recreational sports which fall in the unique intersection of health/fitness/wellness space and leisure/recreation space, has projected market size in excess of INR one trillion. This has considerably offered a new sports experience in India like never before.

How it all started
The idea behind HotFut was born out when two individuals Pavit and Nikhil experienced the dearth of football playing facilities within the city of Pune. Both Pavit & Nikhil, die-hard lovers of Football, recognized the void in sporting facilities within India.
They also discovered that there is an alarming draught when it comes to sporting facilities, as compared to the population in urban areas.
Hence, they started with a world-class sports facility within the city that can overcome the commercial, infrastructural, real estate, and legal limitations and is open for all.
With HotFut as their brand identity, they set up 3 Futsal Pitches in Pune in 2012 and have later expanded to Mumbai and Hyderabad too.
Within three months from set up, HotFut was already witnessing 8000 – 10,000 foot falls a month. This was an eye-opener of how India was in a dire need of such sports facilities in India.
Recent Update: Sports infrastructure and training provider, HotFut has also partnered with Tiki Taka, to set up 10 football venues in Tamilnadu by the end of 2019.
