The 14th edition of the Men’s Hockey World Cup that started on 28th November with 16 world teams, has now come down to only 10 of them after the results of the Pool and first two Crossover matches.
With this, 6 teams for the quarter-finals have already been decided. The decisive factor of the other two teams will now depend upon 2 crossover matches that are to be played between Belgium Vs Pakistan and Netherlands Vs Canada on December 11th.
At the conclusion of 24 pool-stage fixtures, eight teams were featured in the crossover matches for the remaining four spots in the quarterfinals. England and France have already entered the quarterfinal by winning their crossover matches against New Zealand and China respectively.
Netherlands which finished at the second place of Group D will play a crossover match against the third-placed Canada of Group C on December 11th. The quarterfinal competitor for India ( to played on December 13th) will be the winner of Netherlands Vs Canada crossover match.
Earlier, India entered directly into the quarterfinal by winning comprehensively against Canada in their last Pool stage match.
In another crossover match on December 11th, the winner of the Belgium Vs Pakistan match will play the quarterfinal against Germany on December 13th. Other two quarterfinal matches Argentina Vs England and Australia Vs France will take place on December 12th.
Argentina, Australia, India and Germany have entered directly into the quarterfinals as their respective pool-toppers. Spain, Ireland, South Africa and Malaysia have to fly back home because they finished at the bottom of their respective pools.
After India’s solid entry into the quarter finals with two dominating wins and a narrow draw against the top Belgium team, sports experts have now started to speculate about team India’s quarterfinal game.
Glenn Turner, two-time World Cup winning Australian forward said that India has the capacity to beat any team in the world including Australia if they do not play scared.
While Indian fans are positive that performance of the Men in Blue will take them through to the semis, still experts have cautioned the Indian team to prepare for a tough quarter-final encounter against Canada or Netherlands.
Indian team has been playing as a very balanced side whether be it attacking or defending. So we hope that it wins the quarterfinals and go on to win the World Cup.
