Kidambi Srikanth won a historic Silver medal in the BWF (Badminton World Federation) finals. On Sunday, the ex world no 1 player lost the finals to Loh Kean Yew of Singapore. The game continued for 43 minutes, where the points were 15-21 and 20-22 respectively.
Srikanth nurtured the efforts of the father of Indian badminton Prakash Padukon who won Bronze in 1983. B Sai Praneeth also won Bronze for India in 2019.
Lakshya Sen also won a bronze for India. He lost the Semifinal to Srikanth on Saturday. For the first time, India won 2 medals in a single category (men’s single’s).
Even after a loss of Lakshya at the semifinals, the achievement of a Bronze and a Silver made the nation proud. He was not playing since 2017 after winning four Super Series Titles because of fitness issues.
Srikanth is currently ranked 14 in the world and playing his final match after 2019. Srikanth first tried delay in his returns which lead the point table to 9-3. Very soon Loh moved ahead of him after Srikanth started committing too many errors.
Srikanth put every effort at the net to make it a Gold for the country. He was on his knees after realizing he had lost the Gold medal for the country.
On the other hand, Loh became the first man from Singapore to win the title of BWF.
