India’s star under-20 World champion quarter miler Hima Das, proved her worth again by winning the women’s 200m gold at the Poznan Athletics Grand Prix on Tuesday. She had been struggling with a recurring back injury.
Hima, who holds a personal best of 23.10s, finished at 23.65s. Her teammate V.K. Vismaya, on the other hand, beat Iga Baumgart-Witan of Poland to finish third with a personal best of 23.75s. Vismaya had also scaled her personal best in the 400m only a few days ago.

Indian Runners Shine
400m National record holder Muhammed Anas finished third on the podium in the men’s 200m with a season-best timing of 20.75s. Nirmal Noah Tom also registered a personal best 21.30s although he had to suffice himself with a fifth finish. Mohan Kumar, unfortunately, didn’t finish the event. South Africa’s Thando Dlodlo was the victorious one at 20.60s.
Elsewhere, K.S. Jeevan clinched the men’s 400m bronze with a satisfactory timing of 47.25s whereas Kunhu Muhammed ended up at fifth spot with 47.48s.
The event’s race ‘B’ was always going to be an all-India affair, with MR Poovamma pulling out of the women’s main 400m race.
In her absence, it was Sarita Ben Gayakwad who came in at the 5th position with a time of 54.21s. R Vithya (54.33) and V. Subha (54.35) too gave their personal bests, thus taking the next two spots. V.K. Shalini followed next in the fourth spot with a timing of 56.14s in-turn followed by Sarita was fifth.
Tajinder Pal Singh Toor, an Asian champion, bagged the men’s shot put bronze. He registered a fourth round effort of 19.62m to get there while European champion Michal Haratyk came first at 21.26m.
